SILVER CITY ENTERPRISE - January 29, 1892.
OBITUARY
Died: In this city January 24, 1892, Jefferson D. Gaddis, a native of Monticillo, LA, aged 31 years.
Jeff, as he was familiary designated was well known throughout Grant County, as a quiet, energetic business man, of more than ordinary capacity, who made a host of friends wherever he went. He and his father Dr. J. M. Gaddis, lived for a while in Lordsburg, where they were associated in business. They afterwards came to this city, where Jeff engaged in business at the Broadway Bottling Works and continued until failing health compelled him to seek repose from the cares and worry of an active life. he left Silver City several weeks ago, destined for San Antonio, Texas, but in his weak condition could travel no further than El Paso. There he was cared for and tenderly nursed by his father until the grim reaper deprived him of paternal care. He accompanied his father's remains to this city Thursday of last week, little dreaming at the time, that he would so shortly travel over the same route. His death so shortly after that of his father, has cast a pall over a once happy family, and the heartfelt sympathies of the entire community are with the bereaved ones in this their hour of sore affliction.
He was buried beside his father in the Masonic cemetery, and his funeral was one of the largest ever seen in this city.
