US Senator. He served during the Civil War as a Private in Company D, 150th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, being mustered in on May 5, 1864, and being mustered out on August 23, 1864. He was elected as a Republican Senator from Colorado to the United States Senate, serving from 1889 to 1901.
