He moved with his parents to Tucson, Arizona, in 1916, graduated from the University of Arizona in 1930 and was a coach and teacher, of physical education at Tucson High School, (1931-32). He was director of recreation for the City of Tucson schools, (1933-1939) and was Arizona State director of recreation, (1939-40). With the advent of World War II, he was commissioned an officer in the US Army Air Corps, serving in Africa, Italy and was discharged as a Major in November 1945. After the war, he remained in the US Air Force Reserves and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 1949, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first, Eighty-second and Eighty-third Congresses, serving until 1955. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed to head a Federal Job Corps Center in Oregon, organized and directed a Center at Malheur Wildlife Refuge and was director of their center offices in Portland, Oregon.
