Born in Cabell Co WV, the son of Hiram McComas and Rebecca Hatfield who migrated from Cabell Co WV into early Platte Co MO. His father died in 1849. Charles Lee McComas married Oct 10 1856 in Platte Co MO, Elizabeth Jane Hatfield. They left Platte Co MO along with his widowed mother Rebecca (Hatfield) McComas and joined a wagon train leaving Ft Leavenworth KS in Spring of 1863, arriving in Santa Clara Co CA in Oct 1863 to join his brother Rush McComas and family who had arrived earlier in 1861 having gone the Panama Canal route by steamer. The wagon train took 4 mos. Charles Lee McComas and Elizabeth McComas purchased 80 acres in Santa Clara Township near Agnes in 1872. There they raised nine children:
