Ambrose Lewis Babcock was the son of Simon and Electa Buel Babcock. He was born June 1840 (as per Census) or 1839 (Cemetery record) in NY. Husband of Charlotte A Westerman. They married June 15th 1866 in Perinton New York. Father of 12 children, but sadly enough at the time of the 1900 US Census in Denver Colorado only 6 children were still living. He was a carpenter at that time in a young growing city of Denver barely 20 years older then him. 1920 Census has him still in Denver, but now a widow living at 80 years of age with son Leroy 32 and his family. Ambrose was a veteran of the Civil War. He was in the US Army or Union Army or more so what they refered to back then romanticly as the G.A.R. or Grand Army of the Republic. A rare feat, he reached the rank of Corporal in Companies I and E of the 8th NY Cavalry. Living 55 years after the war he died in October 1920. Ambrose is buried in Riverside Cemetery (Military marker), in Denver along with wife Charlotte and several children.
