Edw. L. Buck, Former Arlington Man, Dies
Word has been received here of the death of Edward L. Buck, of Cobleskill, at his residence, Oct. 6, following an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Buck was born Oct. 21, 1875, at West Arlington, the son of Lemuel and Alice Young Buck. His early life and schooling were spent in East Arlington. Later he attended Albany college, from which he was graduated with high honors. A natural executive, he was employed by the late Silas Griffith in charge of lumbering operations on Green Mountain. He was foreman at Hale Chair Shop, East Arlington, and later was for a number of years foreman at the Arlington Refrigerator Shop. He served as constable and as town clerk of the town of Arlington. He was a member and Master mason of Red Mountain Lodge, F. & A.M., No. 63, Arlington, subsequently transferring his membership to Cobleskill Lodge 394, F. & A.M.
In 1916 he moved to Cobleskill, N.Y., where for many years he was shop foreman at the Harder Refrigerator Corporation. He was a member of the Cobleskill Methodist church, where he served as financial secretary for more than 26 years. A lover of music and possessor of a fine bass voice, he gave wholehearted support to choir and chorus work. He was a man of forthright integrity, meticulous in discharging whatever responsibility came to him, and selfless in service to his family and community. A truly Christian man has gone to his reward.
Masonic services were held for him Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon from Mereness Funeral home, with Rev. Dale D. Russell officiating. Interment was in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Mabel Sculley Buck; two daughters, by a previous marriage, Miss Mildred Buck of Rhinebeck, N.Y. and Mrs. Jane Pratt of Cobleskill; a third daughter, Mrs. Francis Ottman of Cherry Valley, N.Y.; one sister, Miss Grace Buck of Cobleskill; one brother, Frank Buck of Springfield, Vt.; four grandchildren, the Misses Patricia and Sandra Pratt of Cobleskill and the Misses Mary Alice and Mildred Ottman of Cherry Valley, N.Y.; one niece, Mrs. F. Lester Lambert of Buffalo, N.Y. and one nephew, Robert A. Buck, of Arlington. A second brother, Robert H. Buck, died in 1925.
