OMA P. CUMMINGS, age 80, of Atlanta, Ga., and formerly Huntington, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at Hospice Center of Atlanta after a courageous fight with cancer. Visitation will be held at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary, 328 Sixth Avenue, Huntington, W.Va., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary, with Rev. David Chafin officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, immediately following the memorial service. Oma was born in Tinsley, Ky., to Oscar and Laurinda Partin and spent the majority of her youth in the Logan County, West Virginia coalfields. She graduated from Man High School in 1942 and worked for Logan County Coal Company upon graduation as a bookkeeper. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank -- a former Truck Sales Manager at Galigher Motor Sales and owner of Cummings Mountain Firewood. Also surviving are her son, Frank B. Cummings of Atlanta, Ga., her daughter-in-law Karen Kellow and her grandson, Mathew Cummings of Lexington, Ky., survive her. Oma was a devoted, giving and loving mother and caregiver to her family and many friends. Her courage and strength during her battle with cancer provides an inspirational role model for all of us. Prior to moving to Atlanta, she was an active member of Central Christian Church, Woman's Club of Huntington and former president of the Child Culture Club and frequent school volunteer. She particularly loved attending Central's Women's Christian Fellowship, baking or cooking for church events, and attending the needs of neighbors and friends. Donations can be made in Oma's memory to The Hospice Center of Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319 or to The American Cancer Society to fund efforts for early detection and cures for Ovarian Cancer
