Len was born to Lawrence "Larry" and Elizabeth B. (O'Connor) Farley. He was educated at Rainy Vale school. He married Gertrude Nora Merrigan in 1913. The couple spent their married life together on their farm. It was a common practice for many people of Irish descent to use their middle names as first names. This created some debate as to whether Len's first name was Leonard or Lawrence; and, Len's own son did not know which name was which. Len died instantly as the result of a harvest accident. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; three sisters; and a son, Eugene. Len was survived by his widow, two sons, and two daughters.
