He was born on Dec. 16, 1930, in Elm Creek, Kan., to George and Alta Hammett. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Hammett; children, Rebecca and Richard (Dick), Roxanne and Ray, Robert and Joanne, and Richard (Rick); grandchildren, Rachel, Jennifer, Cory and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Daija, Delaney and Lacey.
