U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator. He graduated from the Ohio Northern University, in 1889 and taught American history at Ohio Northern University, (1889-94). Graduating from the law department of Ohio Northern University, in 1894, he was dean of the law department, (1896-1900), vice president of the university, (1900-02) and lecturer at the University of Chicago, (1902-07). In addition, he was president of Antioch College Ohio, (1907-17) and elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving (1913-23). In 1923, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, serving until 1935. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in literary pursuits until his death at age 75.

A genuine patriot whose loyalty and unimpeachable integrity never yielded to expediency or compromised a conviction.
