Virgil W. Scherer, 76, Claremont, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 1988, at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney with the Rev. Charles Koester presiding. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Zirkle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Scherer was born in Claremont Aug. 12, 1911, the son of Daniel and Amanda (Goss) Scherer. He married Marie Boatman June 11, 1936, in Union City, Tenn., and she survives.

He was a driver for UPS and was also an East Richland school district bus driver. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, was a 4-H leader for many years and was a former Justice of the Peace.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Clifford Scherer, Ithica, NY.; a daughter, Yvonne Pitts, Olney; a brother, Roscoe Scherer, Olney; a sister, Ruby Walters, Lawrenceville; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
