Lafern Edwards, 97, of Carterville formerly of Ridgway; passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011, 7 a.m. at her daughters home in Carterville. She was born on July 18, 1913 in Union Ridge, Ill., the daughter of Lowell John and Mary (Grant) Dagley. Lafern married George M. Edwards on December 23, 1933 at Concord, Ill. George preceded her in death on August 15, 1975.

She was a member of the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church and belonged several church clubs, Gallatin County Home Extension, and the Order of the Eastern Star Ridgway Chapter #714.

Lafern is survived by two daughters, Frances and David Maloney of Morganfield, Ky., Mary Ellen Abell of Carterville; six grandchildren, Lowell and Tabitha Maloney of Morganfield, Ky., Daniel and Dana Maloney also of Morganfield, Steven and Jolynn Maloney of Henderson, Ky., Craig and Allison Edwards of Omaha, Lisa Wilson of Carterville, Ann Edwards and Fiancé Daniel Kelso of Lexington, Ky., twelve great grandchildren, Davis, Isabel, Jack, Hannah, Bailey, Max and Alex Maloney, Kristen, Shaun, and Ruby Edwards, Jacob and Jeremiah Schwarm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, John Donald Edwards.

Visitation for Lafern will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 2 p.m. at the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church near New Haven with Rev. Kathy Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the Union Ridge Cemetery adjacent to the church. Memorials may be made to the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church or to the cemetery.
