DARWIN'S HALF-SIBLINGS: Anita, Linda, David and Robert.
Darwin served 4 years in the US Navy hospital corps where he met and married Mary Kathleen COLE on May 20, 1955 at the Naval Hospital in Quantico, VA. She was the daughter of Victor Arthur COLE and Mary Elizabeth CARTER. Darwin graduated from Brookings High School and then SD State University in 1961 with a degree in Pharmacy. He worked for Osco Drug, and at one time was co-owner of 4 pharmacies in Virginia. Surviving were his four children, his ex-wife and seven of his siblings. His mother, Gladys (NELSON) WARD died February 26, 1962 of breast cancer at age 48 in Brookings, SD. His father, Orville O. WARD died tragically Sept. 8th, 1941 in Brookings, SD at age 34 after being beaten and found unconscious (an unsolved homicide). Darwin was seven years old when his father was killed. His half-brother, Robert BORSTAD died tragically at age 18, a passenger in an auto accident in Omaha, Nebraska December 1966.
