Clarence attended Harris-Elmore Schools. On January 9, 1942 at Camp Perry Lacarne, Ohio, Clarence enlisted in the United States Army. He served four years, of which eighteen months was spent in the Pacific. On April 27, 1946 in Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Clarence married Helen Margaret Huss. He was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Fremont for fourteen years. Clarence and Helen had children: Jane Anne, Sarah Ellen, Deborah Ruth, Lana Marie, Laura Joan, and Lydia Elaine. Clarence died as the result of injuries sustained in an auto-truck accident in Fremont.
