WASHINGTON — Christopher Todd Hartshorne, known professionally as CT Tucker, leader of The Blue Sparks from Hell, a well-known New Jersey swing rock band, died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 of lymphoma at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was 57.

From when he formed his band, in 1977 until 1990, Tucker and the "Sparks" toured the East Coast, going as far west as Texas and south to Key West. His energetic performances, his dancing, his 1940s swinging R&B-style singing and Louis Jordan racy lyrics won him many fans. By 1990, after wearing out four Greyhound buses, Tucker declared it was time to "get off the road". They settled down to a local schedule playing weddings, fairs, and their regular gigs at the Stanhope House in Stanhope. Blue Sparks continued to play right up until Tucker's illness.

Tucker also invested his time locally as a carpenter helping with restoration for the Washington Township Land Trust and the Middle Valley Community Center, as well as transforming the old Long Valley General Store in to a combination breakfast joint and music venue, Rosie's Cabaret.

After leaving the road, Tucker also devoted more time to his other life with his wife Susan Gural. In 1995, they bought a farm in Washington. Beginning with a few pigs and sheep, they provided trained animals for TV shows, and they began to get more work. They used the name Rock and Roll Animals for their menagerie of 100. After they placed one of their performers on the TV show Homicide, word of their work reached many New York animal talent agencies who placed their "actors" in late-night shows such as Conan O'Brien and Saturday Night Live as well as numerous feature films.

Tucker will be missed by his family, friends and fans.

Services: Memorial service Sunday, Feb. 21, 2 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church, 213 Main St., Hackettstown.

Arrangements were private under the direction of the Robert L. Ford Funeral Home, Flemington.
