The Gettysburg Times 11-6-1942:

Mrs. Margaret M. Mattingly, 69, wife of Claudius E. Mattingly, Hanover, died Thursday morning at 5:40 o'clock, following an illness of two years. Mrs. Mattingly was a daughter of the late John L. and Josephine Lawrence Smith, and was born August 25, 1773 (s/b 1873). Surviving are her husband; eight children, Mrs. Paul Livelsberger, McSherrystown, Miss Edetha C. Mattingly, at home, Mrs. Clare Beck, Hanover, Samuel J. Mattingly, Gettysburg; Mrs. Charles E. Smith, Jr., Mrs. warren Carbaugh and Mrs. John A. Smith, all of Hanover; twenty grandchildren; three brothers, Leo Smith, Fabian Smith and John Smith, McSherrystown, and four sisters, Mrs. Edward Adams, York; Mrs. John Belz, McSherrystown; Mrs. Harry Hombach, York and Miss Bertha Smith, Philadelphia. Funeral Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock from her late residence with a requiem mass at 9 A.M. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hanover, the rector. The Rev. Edward J. O'Flynn, celebrant. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, McSherrystown.
