Lewis C. Anthony, aged 65 years, two months and 28 days, died at his home on Jefferson street in southeast Centralia Saturday morning, Junly 7, 1917, of a general breakdown. Mr. Anthony had been in ill health for several months and was in a St Louis hospital for a time early this year, returning home in April. He has gradually been sinking since, until the end came.

Lewis Cordon Anthony was the son of Thomas J. Anthony, and was born in Morgan County, Missouri April 10, 1852. In 1876 he came to Centralia and engaged in the grocery business with his brother, George. In 1878 they sold the grocery and entered the livery business and continued in it for several years. Mr. Anthony later engaged in the stock buying business, which vocation he was engaged in before coming to Centralia and the details of which he was thoroughly posted. He became one of the most widely known stock buyers in this section.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his loss four children, namely; L. C, Jr. of Richmond, Indiana; Mrs. Emmet Barrett, of Sedalia, Mo; Thomas Jefferson of East St. Louis and Mrs. Cleveland Brown, of near Gant, MO. Funeral services were conducted at the family residence Monday, July 9, by Elder Floyd M. Edwards, after which the body was intered in the city cemetery. Two brothers, Lee, of St. Louis and T. J. of Harrisburg, and one sister, Mrs. James Carter, of Hallsville, also survive him.

Lewis C. Anthony was a good, substantial citizen and his loss will be keenly felt in our community. He was loyal in his home town and he had faith in Centralia's future. He leaves a host of friends and relatives in and around Centralia who join the Guard in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
