Abel Gower came from Virginia to Davidson County, TN about 1778 with the family of General James Robertson, the Founder of Nashville, TN. During a gathering of crops of corn and cotton on the Stones River near Clover Bottom, Abel Gower and his son, Abel Gower, Jr. were murdered by the Indians in the area. Abel Gower married Mary Robertson about 1746 in Brunswick County, Va. They had some 12 children by this union.
