William Meade Fairall was the son of Charles James Fairall [1826-1860], a mariner and farmer, and Athaway Jane Day [1829-1901]. They were married in Alexandria, VA, on November 2, 1852. In addition to William, the couple had three other sons: James Grafton Fairall, born September 24, 1853, and died in infancy; Charles Fairall, who also died in infancy; and Francis Eugene Fairall, born 1855-1856 and died in 1872.

William’s paternal grandparents were Grafton Fairall, a cabinetmaker, born 1799-1800 and died 1834 who lived in Prince George’s County, MD, and Sarah Green Fairall, born 1804 in Sheffield, England and lived in Alexandria, VA. She died in 1881. Grafton Fairall and Sarah Green were married in Alexandria, VA, on May 8, 1823. William’s maternal grandparents were Horatio Day [shipbuilder] and Elizabeth Anderson Day.

William Meade Fairall married Myra Agnes Close [1878-1944] on June 10, 1899, in Baltimore, MD. The couple had two sons: Meade Close Fairall [1902-1983] born in Washington, DC, and Lewis Raymond Fairall [1906-1991] born in Pensacola, FL.

A trained machinist, William worked as a civilian for the U.S. Department of the Navy at various sites: The Navy Yard, Washington, DC; Indianhead, MD, Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC, and Pensacola, FL.

William died November 14, 1915, in Virginia, while stationed at the Norfolk Navy Yard. William was survived by his wife and two sons.
