Professional Football Player. Born James Patrick Seymour, he attended Shrine High School (Michigan) and played collegiate football (wide receiver) at the University of Notre Dame. He made an immediate impact with the Fighting Irish as he set a team record with 13 catches for 276 yards during his first game in 1966 against Purdue. Seymour formed a highly-successful offensive combination with quarterback Terry Hanratty; the pair nicknamed "Fling and Cling" appeared on an October 1966 cover of Time Magazine as their team was en route to a National Championship that year. He would earn All-American status from multiple media outlets (three-times total). Seymour was selected by the Los Angeles Rams during the 1st round (10th overall pick) of the 1969 NFL Draft, but would sign with the Chicago Bears. For three seasons (1970 to 1972), he played in the National Football League with the Bears and appeared in 31 career games, recording 21 receptions for 385 yards with 5 touchdowns. An injury which he suffered during his college years, limited him professionally. Following his football career, he worked in the insurance industry. He died following a lengthy bout with cancer.
