Charlotte was the daughter of James P. and Mary Jane (Henle) Farley. She worked for a number of clothing companies in Sioux City, IA as a seamstress. She returned to Beresford, SD to care for her mother until the time of her mother's death. Then, Charlotte worked as a seamstress for Raven Industries in Beresford, SD.

For a number of years, Charlotte and her sister, Edna, shared the house once owned by their parents. The two spent a lot of time over the years traveling together. Charlotte was also interested in gardening.
