William Hughes was born in Highland County, Ohio, October 6, 1820, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Curt Pointer, near St. Charles, April 9, 1915.
In early manhood he moved with his parents to Muscatine county, Iowa, and from there to Marion county, where the remainder of his life was spent, excepting a few years in Jasper and Madison counties with his children.
Married Catherine Woolifred. Ten children. Those living are; Sarah Totten, of St. Charles, Polly Carter, of Pleasantville, Hattie Hensley, of Nebraska, Asa Hughes, of Sheridan, Wyoming, Dora Mateer, of Monroe and Emma Pointer of St. Charles.
Burial in the Hughes Cemetery near Percy.
