Ernest married Adelaide Feeney April 17, 1937 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Detroit, Michigan. They were married for 56 years before her death in 1993. Ernest served as President of Kraetke Tool Company from 1939 until "the doors closed" in 1948, a business his father and two uncles founded in 1909. In his spare time, Ernest really enjoyed gardening, fishing, and building model ships he put inside bottles. Since he and Adelaide had no children of their own, their home was always a haven for their many nieces and nephews.
