Memorial services for Frances Holt Card, 78, of Lufkin, were held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 at the First Presyterian Church.

Fran was born Dec. 6, 1926 to Silas M. Holt and Eva Carlin Holt in Shelby County, Texas. She died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005 at her residence. She grew up in Lufkin and graduated from Lufkin High School in 1943. She attended the University of Houston, majoring in journalism.

She married Lt. (J.G.) Annon Card of the U S Naval Air Corps in 1946. Fran was an ordained deacon of Heuguenot Presbyterian Church in Pelham, N. Y. She was a member of Bartow-Pell Historic Home Restoration in New York, The Manor Club and Pelham Country Club. After moving to Brussels, Belgium, where Annon Card was chairman of Texaco Europe, she was a member of the Royal Club of Brussels and studied French at the American Women's Club of Brussels.

Fran and Annon retired to Lufkin, their hometown, in 1983. Fran had been active in First Presbyterian Church Choir for 20 years and had a great love for and service to the organization, Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Galveston Historical Society where she gave lectures and tours at the Michel Menard Home in Galveston. Fran was the founder and first President of the Senior Ladies Golf Association of Crown Colony Country Club. She was a volunteer for the Angelina Arts Alliance and a charter member of the Lufkin High School Alumni Association.
