Passed away on March 19, 2011 at the V.A. Hospital with his son at his side. He was the second son of seven children born in Star, Idaho to Charles N. Palmer and Lela Ruth (Taylor) Palmer on August 9, 1918. J.W. enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Douglas, Utah in 1936, serving in World War II and the Korean War retiring at Vancouver Barracks after 24 years of service in 1964.

He met his wife of 47 years Edith H. Boyce, born to Franklin E. Boyce and Miranda (Amundsen) Boyce in Salt Lake City during his first enlistment, and married her on December 3, 1939 at his parents home in Star, Idaho. In his life outside the Army he was a Trailways bus driver, Credit Union manager, and dispatcher, Regional Road Boss for PIE trucking lines. Received his civil flight training in the early 50s and was a Mason for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1987, his older brother Charles Palmer, younger brother Donald Palmer.

Since 1980 J.W. has lived in Spokane to be near his son and daughter-in-law, and for the past 12 ½ years living with them at their Eagle Ridge home. He is survived by his son J. W. Palmer and daughter-in-law Sheryl L. Palmer; brother Bud Palmer of Evansville, Indiana; sisters Velma Johnson of Nampa, Idaho, Jeannine Lloyd, Tucson Arizona, and Carmen Steffan, LaCenter, Washington.

J.W will be laid to rest at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington April 1, 2011 at 2:15.
