He was raised in Camden, SC and graduated from Camden High School. Mr. DeTreville served in the US Army Air Force during World War II, including service in the India-Burma Theater for over two years. He was twice awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in action.
Mr. DeTreville was a member of the Society of Cincinnati. After the war, he became a civil servant and retired from the US Postal Service.
He was married on June 30, 1946, to his wife, Bertie, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, James P. DeTreville, Jr. and his wife, Patricia O'Neill DeTreville, and by three grandchildren: James Michael DeTreville and his wife Rebecca Brown DeTreville; Lauren Elizabeth DeTreville; and Emilie Glenn DeTreville. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, as well as by two sisters-in-law, Patricia Igoe Kasell and Lee Kasell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings: Jean DeTreville Derrick, Julian DeTreville, Richard C. DeTreville, and George Lee DeTreville.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m., April 1, 2011, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
