Cecil Douglas Adkins, 85, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, in Bowie, Texas.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Bowie with Mike Henson officiating.
Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Stoneburg, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. til' 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the White Family Funeral Home.

Cecil was born June 26, 1925 to Oliver and Lillie (Fowler) Adkins in the community of Tage near Bowie and graduated from Bowie High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and later in the National Guard during the Berlin and Cuban Crisis. He married Phyl Weatherford on September 20, 1943 in Henrietta, Texas.
As a life long resident of Montague County, Cecil was a rancher, founding member and commander of the VFW Reddy McClellan Post# 8789 of Bowie, and a member of the Bowie Masonic Lodge #578. Cecil had also served as Montague County District Clerk and Justice of the Peace. He was very outgoing and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Lillie Adkins; wife, Phyl Adkins; four brothers, Claude, Dick, Carl, and Curt Adkins.
Cecil is survived by his children, Jerry Adkins and wife, Carol of Alexandria, Virginia, Brenda McCullough and husband, Bob of Uvalde, and Shelley Eiserloh of Holliday; five grandchildren, Jason McCullough and wife, Betsy of Seattle, Washington, Kyle McCullough and wife, Allison of Uvalde, Ashley Eiserloh of Holliday, Kathryn Saylor and husband, Jesse of Glastonbury, Connecticut, and Lauren Perlaza and husband, Nelson of Kyrgyz Republic; six great grandchildren, Zoe, Madison, Peyton, Vera Claire, Sebastian, and Samuel; one sister, Chris Teakell of Wichita Falls; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Adkins of Purcell, Oklahoma and Linda Adkins of Breckenridge; numerous nieces and nephews.
