obituary in a Salt Lake Newspaper

Charles William Jackson, 80 2788 Imperial St., died Monday at 6:30 p.m. at his residence after a lingering illness. Born Aug. 28 1873 in Paradise, Cache County, a son of Henry William and Mary Adeline Somes Jackson. He was active in the LDS Church and was a member of the Imperial Ward at the time of death.

He married Luella Clegg on Nov 8, 1899, in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Nov 18,1933.

Surviving are three sons, C. Vernon, Floyd C. and Dr. H. Myrthan Jackson, all Salt Lake City; three grand daughters.

Charles William Jackson is my great grandfather. He died when I was three years old, so I only know him through the memories of others. From what I have heard, he was a wonderful man who was very kind and talented. He made many pieces of furniture some of which are in my possession. They are cherished works of art that I enjoy because of where they came from. He survived his wife Luella by twenty-three years. During that time, he lost a son when the plane he was on crashed during World War II, (Hazen Rich Jackson), and a daughter who passed away from cancer, Dora Jackson Harder.

At the time of his death he was living with his oldest son Charles "Vernon" Jackson and they lived just down the street from my parents. All of Charles William "Chas" and Luella's children were born in either Rexburg or Parker, Idaho before they moved to the Salt Lake Area. Their oldest child, a daughter who died as an infant is buried in the cemetery up in Rexburg, Idaho.

His granddaughters Marylyn Jackson Midgley and Karen Jackson Beck have missed him and remember him fondly. His granddaughter Jeanne Jackson also missed him and has joined him in heaven. He left a legacy of love and friendship in the family ties. We as his progenitors are grateful for his example and love him more and more as we learn more about him. Rest in peace grandpa until we meet together in heaven.
