She and Cyril dated throughout the following semester. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Cyril enlisted in the US Army on delayed basis and finished out the school year at Utah State. Mary continued with her studies at Utah State, while Cyril entered into an officer training program. Cyril was called up to active duty in early 1944 and was sent to Fort Campbell, KY for advanced training in the newly formed 20th (light) Armored Division. Following Mary's graduation from Utah State in May 1944, she traveled to KY and was married to Cyril by a country preacher in Hodgenville, KY on June 14 1944. Mary found an apartment in nearby Tennessee and Cyril would join her as he could on weekends. When Cyril's unit shipped out for France in the fall of 1944, Mary returned to live with her parent's in SLC. Cyril returned home from Germany in July 1945 on a 30 day leave before beginning to train for the planned invasion of Japan. Following VJ day, Cyril was quickly demobilized from the Army and he and Mary moved to Ann Arbor, MI where Cyril resumed his studies in mechanical engineering at the University of Micvhigan. Mary and Cyril had their first child, Cyril Edward, in June 1947. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 1948, the family moved to Erie, PA, where Cyril took a job with General Electric Co. While living in Erie, Mary and Cyril, had Gary, Martin, and Jamie. The family transferred with GE from Erie to Louisville, KY in 1955 and in 1958, a fifth and last child, Alan was born. Mary and Cyril transferred to the Chicago area in 1966 with Hotpoint, and settled in Wheaton, IL. Mary and Cyril moved to Utah after Cyril retired from Hotpoint in 1983. They built and "cabin" in Garden City, UT and a townhouse in Bountiful, UT. Mary moved in with her daughter, Jamie and family following Cyril's death in 1996.
