Charles is buried in what appears to be a veterans section of the cemetery. He has a military marker "C A Kirk 2nd" His date of death comes from information supplied by his widow Georgianna Tuthill Benjamin when requesting his pension for having served in the Civil War. His wife is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mountainville. There is no record of his burial in the cemetery records and there is no death record on file with state records at Albany.
From the NYS Adj.-Gen.'s report on the 2nd NYS Cavalry: "KIRK, CHARLES A. — Age, 17 years. Enlisted August 18,1864, at Newburgh; mustered in as private, Company M , August 18, 1864, to serve one year; mustered out, June 5, 1865, at Alexandria, Va."
If he gave his age correctly when he enlisted, he was probably born in 1847.
