Sometime before 1895 Gustave married Amelia Louise Ochsner, daughter of Ignatz and Louise Herrion Ochsner of Newark, Essex, New Jersey. Amelia's two sons from previous marriages, George W Turner, and William M Merritt, were listed living with Gustave and Amelia in the New Jersey State Census of 1895 in Newark. Eventually, Gustave and Amelia had five surviving children: Louise A (1895-1921)(Carroll), Florence B (1897-1975) (Skelenger), Frank L (1900-1981), Clarence E (1902-1973) and Charles F (1906-1977).
