Harlan E. Cox Sr.
Harlan E. Cox Sr., 87, Tipton, died Monday morning at his home.

He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Earl R. and Clara M. (Turnbaugh) Cox. He was twice married, first to Lois M. Loose on Oct. 20, 1946; she died March 11, 1981. He then married Martha C. Mock on Jan. 17, 1984.

Surviving are his wife; five sons: Gary E. of Campbell, N.Y., Tom H. Sr. of Tyrone, Ray A. of Curwensville, Stephen P. of Bellwood and Harlan E. Jr. of Wilmington, N.C.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gale of Altoona and Gerald in Arizona; three stepchildren: Sue A. Baumgardner of Philipsburg, Christine G. Lippiatt of York and Jeannie Weber of Hollidaysburg; and stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Aldena.

Harlan was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the European theater. He retired as a quality tester from the test department of Penn Central Railroad. He was a member of Tipton United Methodist Church, a volunteer at Van Zandt VA Medical Center and a member of UVHA, Bellwood.

Harlan enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, and 10 to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, April 1, 2011, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, the Rev. Robert Stump officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Blair Unit, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648; or Home Nursing Agency Hospice, Altoona.
