Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. for R E "Bob" Smartt, 78, Cookeville groceryman. Mr. Smartt died Tuesday in Cookeville General Hospital after a short illness. Services were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev John Sykes officiating.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon for about 50 years. He was a member of the Masonic Order.
A groceryman here for 32 years, he and Roger Manning organized the Ideal Super Market and he had been actively engaged in operation of the firm until a few weeks ago when he retired due to ill health.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Bradley Smartt; 1 son, Emmett of Nashville; 2 daughters, Mrs. Roger Manning and Mrs. Wesley Flatt of Cookeville; 1 sister, Mrs. Bertha Courtney of Brush Creek.
