Jerome Gault, who has been critically ill for two weeks at his home, died Friday morning. Mr. Gault was born in Jackson, N.Y., October 13, 1841, the son of Joseph and Susian Welch Gault. When a young boy he moved to Arlington with his parents and has lived here since. August 18, 1862, he enlisted in Company C, Fourteenth Vermont Infantry and was mustered out of service July 3, 1863. December 28, 1863, he enlisted in Company G, First Vermont Cavalry. March 19, 1865, he was taken prisoner, but was released March 26. Mustered out of service in August, 1865, he returned to Arlington December 5, 1866. He married Miss Ellen Aurelia Phillips, daughter of the late Charles and Mariette Deuet Phillips. She died December 9, 1910. Mr. Gault was a member of Dudley Post, G.A.R., and was its Commander at the time of his death. Mr. Gault had many friends and was always cheerful, obliging and willing to assist those in sorrow or need. The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Walter Viault and Mrs. John Risdon, also two granddaughters, Leona Viault and Helen Risdon. The funeral was held at the house on School Street yesterday afternoon at 1:30. The services were conducted by Rev. Mark T. Winch of East Arlington. Burial was in the cemetery south of the village.
