New York Times - January 27, 1983

Warren E. Irvin, a former reporter for The New York Times, NBC and the BBC, died Saturday at his home in Cockeysville, Md. He was 86 years old.

Mr. Irvin joined The Times in 1922 after graduating from Johns Hopkins University. In 1935, he became the American press officer in Geneva for the International Labor Office. Four years later, he joined NBC. He went to the BBC in 1940, resigning in early 1941 to lecture on why the United States should enter World War II.

Mr. Irvin, who had served in the Army in World War I, then reenlisted. From 1947 until his retirement in 1961, he edited a newsletter for the United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite, and a son, George.
