CHAUNCEY MEEKINS, WAS CLERK OF COURT IN DARE FOR 56 YEARS
Chauncey S. Meekins, 94, died June 26, 1990, in a Nags Head nursing home. Mr. Meekins, a native of Wanchese, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Eliza Tillett Meekins. Chauncey was a retired as clerk of Superior Court for Dare County after 56 years. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and a charter member and past president of Manteo Rotary Club. He was past treasurer of Roanoke Island Historical Association.
Survivors include his wife, Milah Peele Meekins; a sister, Sophronia M. Tillett of Wanchese; and two brothers, Joseph G. Meekins of Wanchese and Casper D. Meekings of Elizabeth City; several nieces and nephews.
