Mrs. Ada L. Givan, a resident of Madison County for 60 years, died last Thursday, after an illness of three months, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John C. Allen of Winterset. She was 84 years of age.
Mrs. Givan was the former Ada L. McFarland, daughter of Henry and Catherine McFarland, and was born Nov. 3, 1861, near Windham, in Johnson County.
On Dec. 21, 1882, she was married to Robert Givan, he preceded her in death 13 years ago. They were the parents of 10 children, all of whom survive except a daughter, Mrs. Eva L. Purdy, who died in 1921.
Mrs. Givan had been a member of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church for half a century, and taught Sunday School there for a number of years.
She leaves nine children, Lewis H. Givan and Carl C. Givan of Macksburg, Mrs. Maude Allen and Mrs. Dell Tucker of Winterset, R. Lloyd Givan of Greenfield, Mrs. Edith Bevington of Clarinda, Mrs. Merle Brown of Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Ruth N. Wilson of Salida, Col., and Mrs. Verda Hannon of Atlantic. She also leaves 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gus McFarland of California; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma McCoy of Des Moines, and Mrs. Villa Bartlett of Garden Grove.
Funeral services were held last Saturday, from the Wesley Chapel church, in charge of the Rev. A.R. Weed, assisted by the Rev. Paul Crouse. Burial was made in Greenfield Cemetery.
