Died at Goodwill Nursing Home in Grantsville, MD. Julia was born in Des Moines, IA. Julia was the daughter of Woodley and Garnet Cornish. Julia graduated in 1947 from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. She received her nursing degree from the University of Iowa. Julia later attended Georgetown University. She enjoyed working as a nurse at Washington Hospital Center. Julia was always proud of her time spent as a nurse and her family is very grateful for the loving care she received from nurses and nursing assistants in the last few months of her life. Julia married Brig. Gen.(Ret) Corey Jefferson Wright in 1950. She traveled the world as an army wife. During those 30 years they were stationed throughout the United States, Japan and Germany. She lived in Liverpool, New York for many years and loved New York State. Julia was preceded in death by two infant sons, Corey and Joseph Wright. She is survived by her daughters Merri Jo Wright, her husband John (Buddy) Garret of Adamstown, MD and Suzanne Marie Wright and her husband John Taube of Cumberland, MD; her sister JoAnne Leitch of Walnut Creek, CA and her three grandchildren, John Garrett, Murphy Taube and Jack Taube. She is also survived by brother-in-law Thomas Wright and her nephew Mike Leitch and her niece Kate Leitch. Julia was loved and admired by her sister Jo and her family for her strength of character, her artistic sensibilities, intelligence, and wide world view, and her deep love of nature. She will be remembered as brave and strong, self contained, keenly perceptive, wise, kind, and missed immeasurably.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Japanese Red Cross to assist victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami victims.
FUNERAL SERVICES and interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., of Cumberland, MD, is handling the arrangements.
