Newport Hoosier State

Hon. O.P. Davis, of Opedee, took down suddenly ill on Monday last. He is old and quite frail, and it is doubtful if he recovers. Dr. Swafford of Terre Haute was called to see him yesterday morning and counsel with Dr. M.L. Hall.

Wednesday, September 28, 1892
Attorney Joe Davis, of Terre Haute, was up here this week to attend the funeral of his father, Hon. O.P. Davis, of Opedee, who was interred in the Vermillion Chapel Cemetery yesterday afternoon.

Wednesday, October 19, 1892
The executors of O.P. Davis' estate are Judge Jump and Joe Collett of Terre Haute, and attorney C.W. Ward of this place. The estate consists of 1300 acres of land, and not less than 10 or 12 thousand dollars worth of personal property. The estate is in debt about $32,000. The executors have employed James Chipps to superintend the farm, and think by careful management, they can pay off the total indebtedness in 6 years or less.
