The Hale collection identifies William Buel, died April 7, 1763, age 86, and also identifies his wife Elisabeth, daughter of Joseph Collier, as buried in the Old Cemetery, Lebanon.
Ensign William Buell was born 18 Oct 1676 in Killingworth, CT, the seventh child of Samuel and Deborah (Griswold) Buell. Samuel was the son of immigrant William Buell and Deborah was the daughter of immigrants Edward Griswold and Margaret Hicks. According to family historian Albert Welles, William moved to Lebanon about 1698, and married Elizabeth in Hartford in 1705.
They had children William, Samuel, Timothy, Abel, Elizabeth, Deborah and Mehitable.

William married 2nd Martha Smith on 23 April 1730. She died, without children, in 1751. William married 3rd Mrs Jerusha Dean.
Welles reported that William's tombstone had the inscription "One of the Fathers of the Town."
Here Lies the Body of Mr. William Buel, one of the Fathers of the Town.. who was Gathered to his Fathers April ye 7th 1763 in the 87th Year of his age.
