Martha at age 72, died on March 26. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Newton on March 31 with visitation at 6 and service at 7.

Born in Newton to George and Wilma Davis. Martha and her husband, Carlos celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this December. They had three daughters, Lisa Held, Lennis Mathews, and Linette Bowser.

Martha was a passionate advocate of education. She attended Newton High School, Iowa's Teacher's College and Drake University. She taught at Emerson Hough and Thomas Jefferson. Martha also worked at Hansen Directory for 22 years.

She loved sewing and gardening. Martha was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Apres Medi Club.

Survived by her mother, Wilma; husband, Carlos; daughters, Lisa, Lennis, and Linette; sister, Mary Ann Chambers; and seven grandchildren. She is preceded by her father, George; and sister, Marilyn Neasham.

Memorials donated to Hospice of Jasper County.
