Martha Ellen (Carlile) Purman, daughter of John and Matilda Purman, was born in Hire township March 21, 1856, and died at her home one mile south of Good Hope March 10, 1922, at 9:30 a. m., after a two months illness with cancer of the liver.
She had spent her entire life in McDonough county. Dec. 19, 1881, she was married to Abraham Purman, who died of heart failure six weeks ago. At the age of thirty-five Mrs. Purman professed religion and had since been steadfast in her faith. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and a good neighbor who will ge greatly missed.
The following children survive: Levi Purman, West Point, Mont.; Edith May Goff, Good Hope; Matilda Wallman, Bushnell; Harry Albert at home.
Three brothers are also living, they are: John Carlile and Millian [sic] Carlile of Hire township and Samuel of Oakland, Cal. Five children are deceased
