Services to celebrate the life of Jamie Ruth Crow Thornton, age 83 of Huttig AR, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Huttig, with Rev. Bubba Hoggatt and Rev. Todd Gunter officiating.

She was born on October 22, 1921, in Marion, LA, to James Edward Crow and Fannie Ruth Miller Crow. Survivors include her five daughters: Maylin Patterson and husband Richard of West Monroe, LA; Mandy Orr and husband Harry of Calion; Leytine Henry and husband Jerry of El Dorado; Nina Craig of Huttig; and Teresa Moon and husband Kevin of Huttig. Two sisters, Beverly O'Brien of Farmerville and Pat Hicks of Marion; and sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Her greatest joy in life was making a home for her girls, grandchildren and family. Through her journey her hands were never idle: cooking, cleaning, mending, sewing, or drying her children's tears.

There was always room for one more guest at her table, where she could magically turn a few meager items into a delicious feast. With loving hands she created most of the garments her girls wore, everything from their coats to evening gowns. Though she never drove a car, she managed to take care of the affairs of raising a large family.

She adored her sons-in-law and considered them the "boys" she never had. Though there were many grandchildren, Grandma Jamie's heart was large enough to make each one of them feel special.

Pallbearers will be Dickie Patterson, Darren Patterson, Cliff Howard, Harry Todd Orr, Kyle Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Ronnie Craig, and Luke Moon. Family will receive friends at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville Thursday, April 28, 2005, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The body will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until the service at the church.

She will be laid to rest by her husband at the Harper Springs Cemetery in Huttig following the funeral service. (Obituary taken from "The News-Star" of Monroe, LA, Thursday, April 28, 2005.)
