Chiles was the son of Richard Apperson Bacon and Elizabeth Ellen Terrell Bacon. He married Lucy Temple Hall on 1-13-1878. Chiles and Lucy lived 5 miles East of Caddo, Ky. A severe drouth in 1866 led to their moving to Eastland County Texas. They bought a place from a man named Kitchen and lived there until 1893 when they purchased their home on Leon Creek, about 3 or 4 miles south southwest of Cisco. In addition to farming and ranching, he partnered with a man named Hines and operated a livery stable and had a contract to carry the mail from Cisco to Brownwood, Tx. Friends and relatives attending his funeral on Sat. in 1930 were: Mr and Mrs T. R.
