Weisner dies

Ira Weisner, a long-time Alaskan with one of the most colorful reputations to be found along the Yukon, died recently at his home in Rampart.

Weisner, originally from North Carolina, lived in Rampart for more than 40 years. He owned extensive real estate and gold mining property in the area, and was possesser of the only general store and liquor license in town. In former years he was the town postmaster.

Weisner, also was the author of a book, "Yukon Trader," which was based on his life and experiences in the Interior. At the time of his death, he was reportedly working on a second book. He also was a regular contributor to the Daily News-Miner, writing the Rampart news column under the name of Sam John.

Weisner died Sept 9 and was buried Oct 1 at Rampart. There are no survivors.
