Born in Hanover, Germany, Bodo arrived in the US in 1752, at the age of 4 years. The son of a doctor, Bodo Otto, Jr. received a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1771. He was one of four children born to his father and his 2nd wife, Dorotha Doehmchen, who he married on May 21, 1742. His full siblings are: Frederick Christopher Bodo, [ 1743 - 1795 ], Dorotha Sophia, [ 1745 - 1774 ] and John who is linked here on this page. Bodo Jr. settled in Mickleton, NJ. Father and son served as surgeons with George Washington's army during the winter at Valley Forge. In 1778, when his wife, Catherine Schweighauser, and children were home alone, Otto's house was burned by British sympathizers. After this, the family moved to Swedesboro.
