Journalist, Author. He was the first bylined columnist of the "New York Times", for which he wrote "Sports of the Times" from 1927 to 1943. Dubbed a "walking encyclopedia," he appeared regularly on the NBC radio (later television) panel show "Information Please," beginning in 1938, and was editor of "Information Please Almanac," beginning in 1947. He wrote "Natural History of New York City" and other books.
