MELVIN L. ROCK, 83, of 203-D Elder Ave., died at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was critically ill since being admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke last Friday.
Born April 9, 1904 in Waynesboro, he was a son of the late Samuel and Emma (Smith) Rock.
He lived all of his life in Waynesboro and had lived at his present home for the past three years.
As a young man, he was employed at Wayne Tool Co. He later worked at the Letterkenny Army Depot and the Waynesboro Shoe Factory.
Prior to ill health forcing his retirement in 1962, he was last employed as a watchman at Landis Tool Co.
His wife, Mrs. Mary R. (Sheffler) Rock, died in January 1976.
Rock attended Waynesboro Bible Church.
He is survived by three sons and one daughter, Raymond L. Rock, Waynesboro; Robert S. Rock, Phoenixville R.D. 1; Arthur L. Rock, Blue Ridge Summit, and Mrs. Donnie Decker, Quincy; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Stitely, a resident of Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, Fayetteville; and Mrs. Elnora Kincaid, Baltimore.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Grove Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Fitz officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
