I would rather have a little rose from the garden of a friend than all the choicest flowers when my stay on earth must end.
I'd rather have a pleasant word of kindness said to me than all the flattery when my heart is still and life has ceased to be.
I'd rather have a pleasant smile from a friend I know is true than all the tears shed round my grave when this world I bid adieu.
Bring to me blossoms, this day whether pink, white, or red I'd rather have one blossom now than a truck-load when I am dead.
