Catharine Long was born in 1759 at Broadfording, Frederick Co. (now Washington Co.), MD the last of 6 known children born to John Nicholas Long-ii (1728-1791) and Anna Catharine (Studebaker) Long (1732-c1759). Both of her parents were born in Solingen, North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany.

Catharine married Abraham Leedy-i (1748-1934) about 1778 at Baker's Lookout, Washington Co., MD, where they made their first home. About 1788 Abraham Leedy, wife Catharine and 4 or 5 young children according to family tradition, moved from Washington Co., MD to "Morrison's Cove" in Woodbury Twp., Bedford Co., PA on horseback. On 12-14-1805 Abraham Leedy purchased his last home on 341.5 acres of land situated on the headwaters of Yellow Creek, Woodbury Twp., Bedford Co., PA. The 3-story brick home has been referred to as the "Mansion House", containing Abraham's wheel shop on the east side. Family tradition indicates that Abraham was a small, slender man and that in years before his death he had become blind.

Unlike her husband Abraham, family tradition tells us that Catharine was a large, heavy woman and she reportedly once mounted a horse and while riding it broke its back.

Catharine Leedy was mentioned in Abraham Leedy's Will, with specific instructions for her care once he was gone (codicil for his Will was dated 8-22-1834). Catharine died Feb. 1837 in Woodbury Twp., Bedford Co., PA.
